Our Story

Camp Revolution was founded in 2015. The Schalich family had a vision and direction to create a camp in Sonoma County after having to take their son with Tuberous Sclerosis and seizure disorders to a camp 3 hours away.

"Imagine you are the parent of a young adult with intellectual disabilities and seizures. Your child’s family and friends participate in many overnight social events, but your son can’t due to his special needs and medication regimen. You find a summer camp for him to attend but it is three hours away, which makes you very uncomfortable leaving him, knowing you are not nearby.

This is the situation we found ourselves in and know many other parents/caregivers of special needs young adults who are in the same situation. Five years ago, I was motivated to conceive a local experience for my son and many others who live with autism, Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities and all types of developmental disabilities, here in Sonoma County by creating Camp Revolution. We reached out to several local families and community members who we knew were passionate about social/recreational opportunities for differently abled adults. Our initial board created in 2015 brought this vision to life and included Colleen Metz-Rouleau, Maria Geary, Jeannie Kelly, Jill Landerville and myself." - Cindy Schalich

At Camp Revolution, our 3- to 5-night residential summer camp is designed to create community and friendships for our campers who come from all corners of Sonoma County.  Camp is held in the beautiful area of Occidental in west Sonoma County at Alliance Redwoods. In their first rate spacious and well-appointed grounds/accommodations, we are able to create a supportive outdoor setting where campers can safely explore, cultivate greater independence, self-confidence, and benefit from the guidance of positive role models. Through engaging sports, arts, and team-building activities, they'll build strong relationships and stay active. We prioritize camper well-being, with medical professionals on-site to address health conditions and medications, and careful attention paid to all dietary requirements.

Our Mission

Our Mission for Camp Revolution is to provide a safe and fun overnight outdoor camping experience for differently abled teens and young adults. Our goal is to empower these young people with confidence, boost self-esteem, make new friendships and mostly, have a terrific time!

Our Vision

Camp Revolution’s goal is to enable the special needs population a unique opportunity that otherwise would not viable, have a voice and be able to participate in sports, science, arts/crafts, music, ecology, and team building.

Camp Revolution is dedicated to create a board of professionals, educators and parents to come together to host a local camp for developmentally and cognitively challenged children, teens, and adults.
